Equiniti Joins Cross-party Advisory Board To Help Drive UK ESG Agenda

27 April 2023

Equiniti (EQ), a leading provider of tech-enabled shareholder, retirement, remediation and credit services, has announced its appointment to the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) Advisory Board on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG).

The APPG is a cross-party forum, helping to drive forward the United Kingdoms’ ESG policy agenda with the participation of parliamentarians, regulators, thinktanks, investors and businesses. It is unique in channelling technical and practical recommendations directly to Parliament and Government at a critical time in the economy’s transition towards more responsible principles and practices.

Equiniti in the UK is share registrar to 49% of the FTSE 100 and as a group has set a target to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2040, as well as an absolute carbon reduction of 46.2% by 2029. Joining the Advisory Board will enable EQ to provide insight on effective digitisation in financial services, whilst strengthening rights and access for individuals, and contribute on the path to reduce emissions for both EQ and its clients. EQ is a leading voice in the share registration industry, working with Government and regulators to drive the change to a modern, resilient and inclusive financial services system. EQ is a founding cosignatory to the M&S Share your Voice campaign which seeks to strengthen engagement and shareholder rights, gaining wider benefits from digitisation.

Equiniti’s Chief Risk Officer, Adam Green said:

“We are proud to become one of the select sponsors for the All Party Parliamentary Group on ESG.  We see this as an important way to support the development of ESG at a national and policy level, as the APPG has a clear program of working to develop frameworks and other tools to help shape legislative and government thinking.

We want to support the development of a national ESG strategy, linking together the myriad of existing frameworks, policies and strategies. In relation to our own industry, this should include the changes necessary to enable environmental and social benefits from activities such as the digitisation of share certificates and shareholder voting, allowing retail shareholders to engage fully in the companies they invest in. We look forward to working with the diverse group to share our insights and drive forward meaningful change.”
